Damien Rice - The Blowers Daughter

      YouTube - The Blowers Daughter

    And so it is
Just like you said it would be
    Life goes easy on me
    Most of the time
    And so it is
    The shorter story
    No love, no glory
    No hero in her sky

I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
    I can't take my eyes...

    And so it is
Just like you said it should be
    We'll both forget the breeze
    Most of the time
    And so it is
    The colder water
    The blower's daughter
    The pupil in denial

I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
    I can't take my eyes...

Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
    Leave it all behind?

I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
    I can't take my mind...
    My mind...my mind...
    'Til I find somebody new

    You Only Live Twice

    Quote

YouTube - Coldplay You Only Live Twice

You Only Live Twice or so it seems,
One life for yourself and one for your dreams.
You drift through the years and life seems tame,
Till one dream appears and love is its name.

And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on,
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone.
This dream is for you, so pay the price.
Make one dream come true, you only live twice.

And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on,
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone.

    The Rose

    Quote

YouTube - Bette Midler - The Rose

Some say love it is a river
    that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razer
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
    an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
    and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
    that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
    that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
    who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying
    that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
    Just remember in the winter
    far beneath the bitter snows
    lies the seed
    that with the sun's love
    in the spring
    becomes the rose

    Love is an unfailing hope...

    Shakespeare's Sonnet No.18

    Quote

    YouTube - sonnet 18

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
    And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
    Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

    Songs about ... 1983

1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)

    Hurrah I awake from yesterday
Alive but the war is here to stay
So my love Catherina and me
Decide to take our last walk
Through the noise to the sea
Not to die but to be re-born
Away from a life so battered and torn....
    Forever...
Oh say can you see its really such a mess
Every inch of earth is a fighting nest
Giant pencil and lip-stick tube shaped things
Continue to rain and cause screaming pain
    And the arctic stains
From silver blue to bloody red
As our feet find the sand
And the sea is strait ahead..
    Strait ahead.....
    Well its too bad
    That our friends
    Cant be with us today
    Well that's too bad
    "The machine
    That we built
    Would never save us"
    That's what they say
(That's why they aint coming with us today)
    And they also said
    "It's impossible for man
    To live and breath underwater..
    Forever" was their main complaint
    (Yeah)
And they also threw this in my face:
    They said
    Anyway
    You know good well
It would be beyond the will of God
And the grade of the King
(Grace of the King yeah yeah)

    So my darling and I
    Make love in the sand
    To salute the last moment
    Ever on dry land
Our machine has done its work
    Played its part well
Without a scratch on our bodies
    And we bid it farewell
    Starfish and giant foams
    Greet us with a smile
    Before our heads go under
    We take a last look
    At the killing noise
    Of the out of style...
The out of style, out of style

    83

I have these dreams I'm walking home
home where it used to be
    everything is as it was
    frozen in front of me

here I stand six feet small
    romanticizing years ago
    well it's a bittersweet feeling
hearing "Wrapped Around Your Finger" on the radio

    and these days
I wish I was six again
oh make me a red cape
    I wanna be Superman
oh if only my life was more like 1983
all these things would be more like they were at the start of me
I had it made in 83

    thinking about my brother Ben
    I miss him everyday
he looks just like his brother John
but on an eighteen month delay

here I stand six feet small
and smiling cause I'm scared as hell
kinda like your life is like a sequel to a movie
where the actors' names have changed

    well these days
I wish I was six again
oh make me a red cape
    I wanna be Superman
oh if only my life was more like 1983
all these things would be more like they were at the start of me
if my life was more like 1983
plot a course to the source of the purest little part of me

and most my memories have escaped me
    or confused themselves with dreams
if heaven's all they want it to be
send your prayers to me care of 1983

you can paint that house a rainbow of colors
    rip out the floorboards
    and replace the the shutters
but that's my plastic in the dirt

    whatever happened to my
    whatever happened to my
    whatever happened to my
    whatever happened to my lunchbox
when came the day when it got
    thrown away
don't you think I should have had some say in that decision

    more like
    more like
    more like 1983

    1983

When we were kids, our dreams were invincible,
When we were young, our whole lives ahead of us,
And it was well understood we'd all become astronauts,
    And firemen,

Let's not pretend, we all become famous,
Let's not pretend, there's more to this then we hoped for,
For we knew the rules when we were still children,
    You blow it,
    You fail it,
    Disappointment.

It's well on it's way, well understood,
And you have a place, to be (when we were young),
    Time on our hands,
Still out of our hands, just like rain (it rained so hard),
Time ran away, and left us afraid,

    Your parents are proud,
    You've got everything,
    No passion at hand,
    You'll be Ivy League,
    It's more probable,
    We all become salesmen,
    You know it,
    You fear it,
    Mediocrity.

It's well on it's way, well understood,
    And this is your life,
Don't apologize for what you are,
    Because you're a star.

    I hope you find contentment,
I pray you find an answer,
'cause life is better than your occupation,
    Revelation.

When we (when we were young) were,
    Time on our hands,
    Still out of our hands,
Just like rain (it rained so hard)
Time ran away, and left us afraid.

    Try to Remember

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh, so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow.
Try to remember, and if you remember,
    Then follow.

    Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow,
    Follow, follow, follow, follow.

Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That dreams were kept beside your pillow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That love was an ember about to billow.
Try to remember, and if you remember,
    Then follow.

    Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow,
    Follow, follow, follow, follow.

    Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow,
    Follow, follow, follow, follow.

    Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow,
    Follow, follow, follow, follow.

Deep in December, it's nice to remember,
Although you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember,
Without a hurt the heart is hollow.
Deep in December, it's nice to remember,
The fire of September that made us mellow.
Deep in December, our hearts should remember
    And follow.

    Music: Harvey Schmidt
    Lyrics: Tom Jones
    Premiere: Tuesday, May 3, 1960

It's September, the best season of Beijing. The world is on the move-- blue sky, low-hung white clouds, and leaves only one more night rain from falling-- are circling according to the rhythm in this song of autumn. Ephemeral beauty.

All I Ask of You --半夜突然想起来的歌

    No more talk of darkness,
    Forget these wide-eyed fears.
I'm here, nothing can harm you
My words will warm and calm you.

    Let me be your freedom,
    Let daylight dry your tears.
I'm here, with you, beside you,
To guard you and to guide you . . .
Then say you love me every winter morning,
Turn my head with talk of summertime . . .
Say you need me with you, now and always . . .
Promise me that all you say is true
    That‘s all I ask of you . . .
    Let me be your shelter,
    Let me be your light.
You’re safe: no-one will find you
Your fears are far behind you . . .

    All I need is freedom,
A world thats warm and bright
    And you always beside me
To hold me and to hide me . . .
Then say you‘ll share with me
    One love, one lifetime . . .
Let me lead you from your solitude . . .
Say you need me with you here, beside you . . .
Anywhere you go,let me go too
    That’s all I ask of you . . .
Say you will share with me one love, one lifttime
Say the word and I will follow you...
Share each day with me, each night, each morning . . .
Say you feel the way I do
    That's all I ask of you . . .
Anywhere you go let me go too . . .
Love me -thats all I ask of you . .

    New York Minute

    Harry got up
    Dressed all in black
    Went down to the station
    And he never came back
    They found his clothing
    Scattered somewhere down the track
And he won't be down on Wall Street
    in the morning
    He had a home
    The love of a girl
    But men get lost sometimes
    As years unfold
One day he crossed some line
And he was too much in this world
But I guess it doesn't matter anymore

    In a New York Minute
    Everything can change
    In a New York Minute
    Things can get pretty strange
    In a New York Minute
    Everything can change
    In a New York Minute

    Lying here in the darkness
    I hear the sirens wail
    Somebody going to emergency
    Somebody's going to jail
If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hand on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door

    In a New York Minute
    Everything can change
    In a New York Minute
Things can get a little strange
    In a New York Minute
    Everything can change
    In a New York Minute

    And in these days
    When darkness falls early
    And people rush home
    To the ones they love
You better take a fool's advice
And take care of your own
    'Coz one day they're here;
    Next day they're gone

I pulled my coat around my shoulders
And took a walk down through the park
The leaves were falling around me
The groaning city in the gathering dark
    On some solitary rock
A desperate lover left his mark, he said,
"Baby, I've changed. Please come back."

    What the head makes cloudy
    The heart makes very clear
The days were so much brighter
In the time when she was here
But I know there's somebody somewhere
    Make these dark clouds disappear
Until that day, I have to believe
    I believe, I believe

    In a New York Minute
    Everything can change
    In a New York Minute
    Things can get pretty strange
    In a New York Minute
    Everything can change
    In a New York Minute
    Everything can change
    In a New York Minute
    Things can get pretty strange
    In a New York Minute
    Everything can change
    In a New York Minute

Another top 3 EAGLE's song in my mind. The other top 3 member, as you all could guess, is Hotel California. A song everybody loves, a place everybody once stays.

Almost all songs I know involving New York are great ones, such as Famous Blue Raincoat.

    Learn to Be Still

It's just another day in paradise
As you stumble to your bed
    You'd give anything to silence
Those voices ringing in your head
You thought you could find happiness
    Just over that green hill
You thought you would be satisfied
    But you never will-
    Learn to be still

We are like sheep without a shepherd
We don't know how to be alone
So we wander 'round this desert
And wind up following the wrong gods home
But the flock cries out for another
And they keep answering that bell
    And one more starry-eyed messiah
    Meets a violent farewell-
    Learn to be still
    Learn to be still

Now the flowers in your garden
    They don't smell so sweet
    Maybe you've forgotten
The heaven lying at your feet

    There are so many contridictions
In all these messages we send
    (We keep asking)
How do I get out of here
    Where do I fit in?
Though the world is torn and shaken
Even if your heart is breakin'
It's waiting for you to awaken
    And someday you will-
    Learn to be still
    Learn to be still

    You just keep on runnin'
    Keep on runnin'

    The Shape of My Heart

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
    He doesn't play for repect
He deals the cards to find the answers
    The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of probable outcome
    The numbers lead a dance

I know that spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that clubs are weapons of war
I know that diomands mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

He may play the jack of diomands
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades

I know that spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that clubs are weapons of war
I know that diomands mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

And if I told you that I loved you
You'd maybe think there's something wrong
I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one
    Those who speak know nothing
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost

I know that spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that clubs are weapons of war
I know that diomands mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape of my heart

    变幻莫测的牌局,如生活般充满了偶然与玄机。
    用四种花色看透人情世故,也试图参悟自己的命运和感情。
    虽然众人看我始终如一,这却依然只是一张面具。
    那些夸夸其谈、怨天尤人或是畏缩不前的人,我和他们都不一样;
    勇气、力量和金钱,其实都不难加以掌握。
    这一切都无关紧要,如果你知道我的心是何样。

    如果我现在

    今天上了一下trueice,发现这首老歌居然在单曲点播10大里,不由得想起了高中时候听某赠品CD后满世界找高旗的(盗版)CD的经历。结果最后找到了,买了,双CD,末了脑子里,还是只有这首。
    所有被热情浸透的夜晚
    如此遥远的旋转
    所有眼前的远去的黑暗
    汇聚现在

    所有那漫长的疯狂的爱
    经过后是如此短暂
    所有坚强的脆弱的承担
    期盼彼岸

    中止我每丝呼吸
    让心灵穿透最深的秘密
    指引我抓紧生命的美丽
    如果我现在死去
    明天世界是否会在意
    你梦里何时
    还会有我踪迹

    在你眼中
    在你梦里
    在你心底
    我曾是那唯一

    用曾经最让我激动的晚霞
    在天边画上你的影像
    在无数的日月沧桑后
    你会在谁身旁

    用世间所有的鲜花和芬芳
    装点你永远的身旁
    让你曾为我激荡的心
    记住我的笑容

    Here with Me

I first heard this sung by Sarah Brightman, in La Luna; later, it was performed by Dido, in No Angel.
It didn't catch me at the first time, but it turned out I cannot get it off my mind either...  It's a song of time.

    I didn't hear you leave
I wonder how am I still here
And I don't want to move a thing
    It might change my memory

Oh I am what I am
    I do what I want
    But I can't hide

    And I won't go
    I won't sleep
    I can't breathe
Until you are resting here with me

I don't want to call my friends
For they might wake me from this dream
And I can't leave this bed
    Risk forgetting all that's been

Oh I am what I am
    I do what I want
    But I can't hide

    And I won't go
    I won't sleep
    I can't breathe
Until you are resting here with me

    I won't leave
    I can't hide
    I cannot be
    Until you're resting here

    And I won't go
    I won't sleep
    I can't breathe
Until you are resting here with me

    I won't leave
    I can't hide
    I cannot be
    Until you're resting here

Best and Worst Albums in the Eyes of Critics

Wonder how critics get their reputation in jokes? Just watch this list of best/worst albums (mostly published after 2000) scored by critics.

And try to find some popular artists you know.... Where are they? Of course, at the bottom rather than near the top, just to name a few:

    Worst Albums:

    Testify by Phil Collins (3)

Jagged Little Pill Acoustic by Alanis Morissette (7)

A Day Without Rain by Enya (11)

It Had to Be You... The Great American Songbook by Rod Stewart (14)

    Charmbracelet by Mariah Carey (18)

    Forever by Spice Girls (25)

More Than You Think You Are by matchbox twenty (55)

And there are many, many more.......

However, I notice that despite their poor "official" rank , users score them at least 6.5 out of 10, some of which even receive a score as high as 9.2.

So... next time you look at a critic's favorite/hate list, which end should you follow???

Windmills of Your Mind (and some numbers)

Round like a circle in a spiral like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending on beginning on an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find In the windmills of your mind

Like a tunnel that you follow to a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving in a half-forgotten dream
Like the ripples from a pebble someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that I said?
    Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
    Pictures hanging in a hallway
Or the fragment of a song
    Half-remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong?

When you knew that it was over
    Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair?

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
    Never ending or beginning
    On an ever-spinning reel
    As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Wishful milenio (performed by Yu Chyi

Come milenio let there be doors to beauty
Come milenio let there be cure for spite
No more disguise , simplicity thrives
Be weightless so we can fly
Right under the stars , a voice from afar
A key I have placed in your heart

Come milenio , the answer lies in the question
Come milenio , beyond the despair there is hope
The desert may bloom , bewilder the fool
    So much is left unrevealed
    You haven't a clue , a womb or a tomb
Look into a flower you'll see fruit

Come milenio , may fire make peace with water
Come milenio , a fist ends with open hand
Remember the flames , forget not the pains
Let's not make the same mistake
Surrender the grudge , embrace the unloved
    The curses no longer beheld

Come milenio , may tears shed not out of sorrow
Come milenio , may we cherish what we've borrowed

At Seventeen (performed by Yu Chyi)

I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired

    The Valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth

And those of us with ravaged faces
    Lacking in the social graces
    Desperately remained at home
    Inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say "Come dance with me"
    And murmured vague obscenities
It isn't all it seems at seventeen

A browneyed girl in hand me downs
Whose name I never could pronounce
Said "Pity please the ones who serve,
They only get what they deserve"

And the rich relationed home town queen
    Marries into what she needs
With a guarantee of company and heaven for the elderly

Remember those who win the game
Lose the love they sought to gain
In debentures of quality and dubious integrity
The small town eyes would gape at you in dull surprise
When payment due exceeds accounts received at seventeen

To those of us who knew the pain
    Of Valentines that never came
And those whose names were never called
    When choosing sides for basketball

It was lyng ago and far away
The world was younger than today
And dreams were all they gave for free
To ugly duckling girls like me

We all played the game and when we dared
    To cheat ourselves at solitaire
    Inventing lovers on the phone
    Repenting other lives unknown

They call and say "Come dance with me"
    And murmur vague obscenities
    At ugly girls like me
    at seventeen

    X&Y by Coldplay...

Wild Flower by Sherl Crow...

Jagged Little Pill Acoustic by Alanis Morissette...

Home On The Highways by Alison Krauss And Union Station...

    K.D.Lang的一些……

The Gentle Giant by Don Williams...

Guilty Pleasures by Babra Streisand...
